Wallstreet—Moneyfield New York

The Polaroid series Wallstreet—Moneyfield New York is based upon an action for which we affixed one hundred United States quarter coins to the sidewalks of New York’s Wall Street with Super Glue in September 1995. The snapshots document bankers, brokers, and other passersby in their attempts at scraping the coins off the street. A homeless man was ultimately successful in pounding coins out of the concrete with a hammer and chisel. A few days later the photos of these vain attempts were exhibited at the urban crime scene.
